The Order of Canada Bestowed on Rémi Marcoux

Montreal, October 26, 2007 – Today, Rémi Marcoux, the founder and Executive Chairman of the Board of Transcontinental, was invested as a Member into the Order of Canada at a ceremony presided over by Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada.

Her Excellency announced the new appointments to the Order of Canada in February. This award is the country’s highest civilian honour, recognizing a lifetime of outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation.

“It is a great honour to be awarded the Order of Canada and I would like to thank Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada,” said Mr. Marcoux. “I would also like to share this recognition with everyone who has worked for Transcontinental over the years, and with the members of my family.”

As noted by the Office of the Secretary to the Governor General, “Rémi Marcoux is the perfect example of those builders who contribute to the vitality of the economic sector and the growth of communities. In 1976, he bought a little printing shop with about 30 employees. With talent, determination and innovation, he has made Transcontinental a flagship of the Canadian economy in the field of printing and publishing. The company is also known as one of the most socially responsible in Canada. He is respected and admired for his generosity and ongoing commitment to a number of organizations, such as the Sainte-Justine Hospital Foundation, the Montreal Children’s Hospital, the Montreal Heart Institute Foundation, the United Way and HEC Montréal.”
