New Press Rolling at Transcontinental’s Saint-Hyacinthe Facility

Montreal, June 5, 2007 – Transcontinental has completed the installation of a state-of-the-art 8-unit KBA press and peripheral equipment at Transcontinental Saint-Hyacinthe, a flyer and insert printing facility. Now fully operational, the new press was part of a $25 million investment announced for the facility in June 2006.

The investment reflects Transcontinental’s continued commitment to flyer and insert printing for Canadian retailers as well as for non-traditional and highly specialized advertisers. Improvements to the Saint-Hyacinthe facility, which employs about 250 people, include a 22,500-square-foot expansion for a total building footprint of 142,500 square feet.

The addition of the KBA press became necessary following a new agreement with Loblaw Companies Ltd. in 2006, in which Transcontinental renewed its contract to print flyers for the Loblaw banner across Canada. As of this spring, the contract also includes printing of flyers for the Provigo chain in Quebec at the Saint Hyacinthe facility. The contract has an annualized value of over $60 million, of which a third is new business from Provigo.

“I’m very proud of our employees, who have successfully worked together to complete this major project while continuing to serve our customers,” said Luc Desjardins, president and CEO of Transcontinental. “The new press will also make us more efficient and give us greater flexibility during peak periods. For Transcontinental, it’s also a mark of our confidence in the Saint-Hyacinthe community, where we have been operating since 1979.”

With its specialized plants in Halifax, Saint-Hyacinthe, Brampton, Calgary and Vancouver, Transcontinental heads Canada’s largest network of printing products and services for retailers. This state-of-the-art national platform serves the biggest names in Canada’s retail industry.
