Montreal, September 26, 2006 – Isabelle
Marcoux, Transcontinental’s vice president, corporate
development, has accepted the honorary presidency of Exklusiv
2006, a gala evening to raise funds for the Fondation
du maire de Montréal pour la jeunesse, whose mission
is to help young low-income Montrealers start up their own
companies. This colourful event will be held on Thursday,
September 28, and will be the not-to-be-missed soirée
of the fall season, with an ambiance enhanced by musical performances
given by artists the Fondation sponsors. More than
700 young professionals from the business, advertising and
arts community are expected to attend. Ms. Marcoux, who is
a member of the board of the Fondation du maire de Montréal
pour la jeunesse, was pleased to accept the invitation
from the organizing committee.
“Exklusiv offers young professionals an opportunity
to help other young people get started in business, which
helps pass on the tradition of philanthropy in the Montreal
business community,” said Ms. Marcoux. “It’s
an important aspect of the Fondation and I’m
proud to be associated with it. Like the Fondation,
I firmly believe in giving active support to entrepreneurship
and mentoring because they are tools of economic development.
I’ve been lucky enough to be exposed to a business atmosphere
and environment all my life and I’ve learned a lot from
it. That’s why I want to give young people this chance
and encourage the builders of tomorrow.”
Over the past ten years, the Fondation has awarded
$3.3 million to young entrepreneurs and has supported
more than 595 projects and created over 1200 jobs. The Fondation’s
main sources of funding are businesses and three major annual
fundraising events: Exklusiv, a first this year; a golf tournament;
and the Mayor’s Ball, which this year will be held on
November 29. For more information about Exklusiv, visit www.exklusiv.ca.
