| “It’s
not a coincidence that as I step out as Transcontinental’s Chief
Executive Officer for the first time, it’s on the subject of the
environment. Transcontinental’s future will be ‘green’
or it won’t have a future.”

Transcontinental
has always had an excellent reputation for protecting the environment.
In 2007, we renewed our commitment in our own way, that is, by mobilizing
our employees and encouraging them to take concrete action at every level
of the company.
Challenge
issued, challenge taken up
This online document describes key initiatives. Management set
the example by adopting a leading paper purchasing policy aimed at protecting
the environment. We are supporting the implementation of this policy through
clear incentives and measure our progress quarterly. As we intended, most
of the initiatives come from our people on the shop floor or our business
groups. In other words, our environmental action plan is powered by our
people and their enthusiastic commitment to practical action. They are
proud of their achievements and we are proud of them!
The Initiatives
document gives us a picture of the results of our plan and in so doing
becomes part of our corporate heritage: may these initiatives live long,
multiply and be copied. The legacy we leave will be a team effort.
Some initiatives
required coordination with our customers and suppliers. In the spirit
of our business culture, we worked with them as partners. This helps make
our initiatives both realistic and forward-looking.
Obviously, Initiatives
cannot reflect the hundreds of small environmentally aware actions that
our employees engage in every day — often unremarked by others —
and which form the basis of our commitment and actions. Let us continue
together to work on this important mandate for the future.
